AZU Employers Association – WordPress with Custom Blocks

AZU Arbeitgeber Zürcher Unterland has been the network of and for entrepreneurs in the region for over 75 years: more than 60 member companies from industry, logistics, retail and healthcare meet at employer conferences, general assemblies and company visits – true to the motto "together we achieve more than alone". The offering is complemented by an expert programme providing specialist advice to members.

The new association website was created in 2024 through a collaborative division of labour: concept and design come from cdg Beratungen – we implemented the site technically on their behalf. It is a model we regularly practise as a white-label development partner: the agency remains the creative authority towards its client, while we deliver the solid technical foundation.

Technically, the website is built on WordPress with custom blocks for the Gutenberg editor. Instead of a page builder, we translated cdg Beratungen's design into a set of reusable, precisely defined content blocks – from the hero slider and news and event teasers to board and expert profiles. The editorial team assembles pages from these building blocks and cannot break the design: every block brings its own layout and only accepts the content intended for it.

In terms of content, the website fully reflects the association's life: current reports from events, upcoming gatherings, the expert programme, board and office, and the member overview with company logos. A protected member area with downloads complements the public site.

The result is a structured, low-maintenance association website whose content the office has kept up to date independently since launch – and an example of how agencies can deliver their projects with us as their technical implementation partner.
